A small wine bar with a summer garden in the heart of Frankfurt’s city centre.

VINOVUM – Alte Hofkellerei – the new wine bar on Kleine Hochstraße carries on the tradition of the Wagner family of wine merchants.

Gottfried Wagner, owner of the wine merchants Schultz & Wagner, founded in 1760, built the cellar building in 1893. He was Imperial and Royal Purveyor to the Court of the Habsburg Monarchy and also supplied the royal cellars in Potsdam.

Surrounded by historic views in the modern setting of the VINOVUM wine bar, we serve wines from the Prinz von Hessen estate and other first-class producers. Right in the heart of the city, VINOVUM invites you to linger over small dishes, freshly prepared every day, and fine wines.

It all began with a wine cellar

From 1893, the wine merchants Schulz & Wagner, founded in 1760, used the vaulted cellars at Kleine Hochstraße 9 to store their wine. In 1990, Matthias Wagner, the twelfth generation of this Frankfurt wine-trading family, turned the beautiful vaulted cellar into the VINUM wine tavern. Since 2008, Dana Lekic, who had worked there since the tavern first opened, has carried on the VINUM tradition as owner and host. In spring 2018 she opened the small wine bar VINOVUM with a cosy summer garden on the ground floor of the same building. Today, Tanja Lekić, Dana Lekić’s daughter, is carrying this tradition into the next generation.

Our garden is a retreat where you can take a breather in the middle of the city.

We are tucked away on a side street just off the Fressgass (Große Bockenheimer Straße), and despite the central location it is surprisingly quiet, even on weekdays. Far from the stress of everyday life, you will always find a comfortable seat with us — with or without food, but always with a good glass of wine from the region.
